Did not vote for that

Re: “Poilievre, flying high in polls, becomes bigger war room target,” (Warren Kinsella, Oct. 1). I quite like Warren Kinsella. I believe he is honest and, although a true Liberal, is prepared from time to time to criticize the party’s current leader. His column was an interesting outline of reasons why Pierre Poilievre will not win the next election. In this, I must take issue. Canadians did not vote for a socialist government in the last election, but they got one with the amalgamation of what I consider to be the two Labour parties of Canada. The current Liberal Party and the NDP. This amalgamation has not proven to be the fabulous government it promised to be. Canadians are not fools and, while they were prepared to grant Trudeau another chance, they did not bargain for higher taxes, government control over free speech, or the numerous other mistakes that have been made or are being contemplated the conglomerate. There is no doubt that Trudeau will do his best to malign Poilievre, but he should be very careful because Pierre might just turn the tables on him. Let’s face it, Justin has provided loads of gaffs that Poilievre can exploit and he can do it much better than Trudeau. I think you just might be wrong, Warren.

They already are going after him, but Poilievre appears prepared for the Liberals’ viciousness.

Lessons learned

Killer Hurricane Ian was a gigantic storm that caused death and destruction in Cuba and Florida and onwards. Long before the storm reached landfall in Florida, many news and weather outlets were warning people of its strength and possible excessive winds and flooding. Now that the storm has passed, many people are claiming they figured it would not impact them or there were not enough warnings. Fake news. They were warned many times. A lesson to be learned is that storm warnings should be taken seriously at all times. Everywhere.

Bill Sholdice

Millions did evacuate because they heeded the warnings.

Don’t promise it all

Campaign promises and delivering are two different things, and I say to them please do not promise everything under the sun, including the sun. As a voter, I know it is not possible and I understand that. Why not promise what can actually be done and work on the rest with co-operation, compromise and collaboration, keeping the communication door open? This comes from former U.S. president Bill Clinton, and I find this very sound advice. Please listen to it and heed it. No need to offer all-you-can-eat appetizers, but how about full-meal plan? Eh!?

Political advice from Bill Clinton — brave choice.

Empty warning

I’m sure Vladimir Putin is shaking in his boots! Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly has spoken. She is quoted as saying “Targeting civilians is a war crime. We will hold Russia accountable”! So please tell me Ms. Joly, are you going to send our vast navy along with our aircraft carriers over there? Put boots on the ground, march into Moscow, arrest Putin and his cronies and haul them off to The Hague? Please explain how you are going to accomplish this mighty feat to “hold them accountable”? Or is it just more typical Liberal Blah Blah Blah?

Glenn Krause

Big words, indeed.
