The heat is rising

The en-masse resignations from the Trudeau Foundation recently, while embarrassing for the prime minister, at least follows the narrative. With reports that a 2016 donation tied to Beijing, which was to be refunded but couldn’t be because they weren’t sure who actually donated it, emerged, the fallout began. Members explained that the “political climate” had made their positions untenable. Our beleaguered PM, while not pleased will obviously understand. Anything they could do to turn down the ‘temperature’ on his clearly compromised government is good, as long as they just don’t follow the ‘Green’.

Al Willey

It’s always the people around him that take the heat.

Imported extremes

American Victor Davis Hanson’s April 8 commentary throws everything but the kitchen sink at American Democrats, saying that they have initiated a Jacobin Revolution of sorts in the United States. This opinion is more than just a little extreme. The Jacobin Reign of Terror during the French Revolution resulted in more than 16,000 people losing their heads by guillotine. Say what you will about the Democrats, beheading their opposition is not something that they do. America is deeply divided, and having a very difficult time finding any common ground between Republicans and Democrats in that country. Do we really want the same thing here in Canada?

Karlis Poruks

We certainly don’t, but under current leadership, we are moving in that direction.

State of our military

Instead of big talk and giving military equipment to other nations, perhaps our Liberal government should take a hard look at the state of our own military. How long did it take to decide to purchase the F-35s? How long will it take to get the new frigate program started? Thank God we are building the Arctic patrol ships, a Stephen Harper initiative. In this time of increased world tension, we need to wake up. Having the U.S.A. as our neighbour has made us complacent toward the maintenance of our own Armed Forces. Mandatory basic training for one year for all 18-year-old males would also be beneficial not just for our civilian military preparedness but also for the discipline and guidance that young men need. It may even result in less crime on our streets.

Ian MacKenzie

Trudeau’s Liberals don’t care about the state of our military.
