Public health announced another 86 new cases of COVID-19 and three more deaths related to the virus on Thursday.

All three deaths are linked to the Alpha or B.1.1.7 variant, which was first identified in the United Kingdom, and include a man in his 60s from Northern Health, a woman in her 70s from Southern Health and a Winnipeg man in his 70s.

Manitoba’s death toll rose to 1,154, with 163 of those linked to variants of concern.
Of the 86 new cases, 39 were found in Winnipeg, while 16 were identified in Interlake-Eastern, 11 in Northern Health and 10 each in Southern Health and Prairie Mountain.
The province has recorded 56,667 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. The active caseload rose above 1,000 for the first time in three days, settling at 1,016. Reported recoveries increased to 54,494.
Meanwhile, 49 new cases of variants of concern were added to the provincial total, which now stands at 15,846. Of that, 605 are active.

COVID-19 patients in hospital dropped was down by 10 to 142 on Thursday compared to the previous day’s total. In Manitoba, 137 patients are hospitalized while five more patients, all in intensive care, are in Ontario.
In Manitoba, ICU patients increased by one to 34. There are 108 Manitobans currently in ICU for COVID and non-COVID issues. The provincial pre-pandemic baseline was 72.
Another 1,445 laboratory tests were completed Wednesday, bringing the total number of lab tests completed since early February 2020 to 841,118.
Meanwhile, another 17,257 doses of vaccine were administered on Wednesday, upping the provincial total of jabs given to 1,553,748.
The provincial dashboard shows 905,789 (76.1%) of eligible Manitobans have received at least one dose, while 642,384 (54%) have been fully immunized with two doses.
For the province to reach its third and final target slated for Labour Day, first-dose uptake must reach 80%, while second doses administered needs to hit 75%.
