A 40-year-old man was stabbed in the 1100 block of Logan Avenue after a pair of suspects attempted to rob him at knifepoint. One suspect stabbed the man without being provoked, which resulted in severe upper-body injuries. The man was taken to hospital in unstable condition but was later upgraded to stable.

The suspects fled the scene and the victim ran to safety for assistance. The pair of suspects and victim were not known to one another.

Police responded to the stabbing call just before midnight on Saturday in the 1600 block of Alexander Avenue. Ten minutes after midnight, police found one of the suspects walking in the Logan Avenue and Winks Street area with the help of AIR1. Police directed the man to stop but fled on foot and after a short pursuit the suspect was arrested. Police found a sharp-edged weapon nearby.

As a result, a 24-year-old from Winnipeg was charged with robbery and two counts of failing to comply with a condition of a release order. The man was detained in custody.

The second suspect has not been located.

The Major Crimes Unit is continuing the investigation. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
