Kinew holds townhall in Eriksdale to pitch ER planBack to video
“No matter where you live in the province, you deserve good health care close to home,” said Kinew in a press release. “But for seven years, Heather Stefanson and her PC government turned their backs on rural Manitoba and did nothing to support critical services, like the Eriksdale ER. The NDP will make health care better in Eriksdale by building a new ER.”
The Erksdale ER was closed in 2022, despite protests from community members, workers and local First Nations. Without a consistently open ER nearby, many rural Manitobans have been left to drive from town to town, sometimes for over an hour, to get care in a medical emergency. Others have been rushed via ambulance to Winnipeg.
Currently the Eriksdale ER is only open a few days a week, the NDP said.

“Heather Stefanson and her government continues to show us how little she cares about rural health care, about the rural communities that they serve, and us, as rural Manitobans. The Interlake deserves better,” said Interlake-Gimli NDP candidate Sarah Pinsent-Bardarson.
Last month, the NDP announced plans to reopen Emergency Departments at Victoria, Concordia and Seven Oaks hospitals in addition to a new ER in Eriksdale to serve families in rural Manitoba as well as a commitment to fix the health care staffing crisis with a $500 million investment in recruitment and retention. They also announced that they would hire 200 paramedics if they form the next government.
Manitobans head to the polls on Oct. 3. Advance voting will run for eight days, from Saturday, Sept. 23 until Saturday, Sept. 30.
