On Saturday afternoon, Winnipeg Police were called to the 300 block of Kennedy Street for the report of an armed robbery.

Officers responded and, through their investigation, identified a male suspect. At around 2 p.m., with the assistance of the Tactical Support Unit, officers attended to a residence in that block and safely placed a male in custody.

Officers recovered the stolen property, a firearm which was determined to be a replica handgun, and several other weapons.

Police believe the victims, a 40-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man, had gone to the location to sell Playstation components they had placed on an open-source social media platform. Investigators believe the suspect met the approaching male, brandished a firearm, robbed him of his property, and fled to a nearby residence.

The suspect and victims were previously unknown to one another, police said.

The stolen property was returned to the victims.

The suspect was charged with using an imitation firearm during the commission of a crime and three counts of possession of a weapon. He was detained in custody.

This incident is being investigated by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
