Man killed in early morning shooting on Mountain: Police

A 23-year-old man is dead following a shooting on Mountain Avenue, early Sunday morning.

Officers found a male in the 500 block of Mountain Avenue suffering from a gunshot wound at about 12:45 a.m., police said in a release. He was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.

It is the 23rd homicide of the year in Winnipeg.

The Homicide Unit assumed the investigation. No further information was released.

On Sunday afternoon, police vehicles were stationed in the front and back of a two-storey house between McGregor and Andrews streets, with police tape cordoning off the front entrance and multiple homes across the back lane.

A pair of evidence markers were visible in both the side yard and back lane.
