Sinatynski on verge of impressive feat

Dauphin Kings forward Jesse Sinatynski is closing in on an accomplishment that doesn’t happen too often in hockey circles these days.

With 46 goals in 41 games as of Friday afternoon, he’s on pace for 50 goals in less than 50 games this season.

Sinatynski should’ve broken the 50-goal mark by now, according to his coach.

“What’s kind of ironic about that is that he’s missed several opportunities,” Dauphin head coach Marlin Murray said. “He could likely have 10 or 15 more goals right now.”

Sinatynski has to agree.

“I definitely think I could have finished more frequently but that’s the way it goes.”

Sinatynski’s scoring touch this season has vaulted the 29-9-4 Kings to the top of the Sher-Wood Division.

“I have had a lot more opportunities to play this year,” the 19-year-old said. “Last year I was playing on the third line and now I’m playing first line this year and I give lots of credit to my linemates.”

During the 2009-10 season, Sinatynski played 29 games with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League before coming to Dauphin last season.

Sinatynski says the time in Brandon was memorable.

“I practised a lot with the Memorial Cup team. I didn’t get in a lot of games but it was a great opportunity.”

Murray liked what he saw in Sinatynski and recruited him.

“He’s a very dangerous player for us when he has the puck in the offensive zone,” Murray said. “He can get to open spaces and he’s got likely the best shot in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.”

Many tremendous goal scorers have made their way through Dauphin in years past, including Shane Luke and Bryan Kauk, but what sets Sinatynski apart is his competitive nature, Murray said.

“His compete level is very high and he absolutely hates to lose,” said Murray.

Sinatynski hopes to stay in Dauphin and help bring home an MJHL championship.

“Marlin has been really good to me so I plan on staying here until I’m 20 and then I’ll hopefully get a contract in Europe.”

“He’s worked hard this season,” said Murray. “Everything that’s happened to him this year, he deserves it.”
